Hair Relaxers

About Hair Relaxers

A class action lawsuit and multi-district litigation (MDL) is currently underway in federal court against hair relaxer manufacturers, alleging a link between the use of hair relaxers and cancer.

The number of active cases in the MDL increased from 7,946 in July 2024 to 8,192 in August 2024. DetailsAllegationsPlaintiffs claim that hair relaxers cause health problems like uterine, ovarian, endometrial, and cervical cancer, as well as scalp burns, hair loss, and allergic reactionsDefendants' response Defendants deny any wrongdoing and claim that other factors, like genetics or lifestyle, caused the injuriesSettlement amountsThe average settlement per person ranges from $100,000 to $1,500,000, depending on the severity of injuries and the strength of the casePending issuesOne central issue is the status of Revlon's bankruptcy, as the cases are supposed to file claims as creditors in the bankruptcy
